After 49 years and 70 million killed babies, the Supreme Court has overruled Roe v. Wade and abortion is once more illegal in Texas.
But the Supreme Court did not say that the unborn child is a person protected under the Constitution. Instead, the Supreme Court said that it was up to the people - through their elected representatives in Congress and the state legislatures to determine what protection, if any, would be given to unborn babies.
In Texas, our laws which banned abortion have been reinstated. But that does not mean our work is over. These laws could be reversed at any time by a pro-abortion majority in Congress or the legislature.
Phase II of our work now begins. We must reach the hearts and minds of the people of our community with the message that unborn children are persons who deserve a right to live. In a sense, now starts the true national debate over abortion.
